While the Hokule’a sailing canoe circles the globe with the message “Malama Honua” – Care for the Earth, the U.S. military is waging war on the earth – air, land, and sea, people, plants and animals.  The U.S. is currently waging wars in at least six countries, and provoking and risking new wars with other countries, including possible nuclear war with Russia and China.

Meanwhile, RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific), the world’s largest U.S. led war game is now taking place in and around Hawaii. RIMPAC 2016 is scheduled from June 30 till August 4. Twenty-six nations, 45 ships, five submarines, more than 200aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating.

During RIMPAC countries conduct live-fire operations with a wide variety of weapons systems on land, sea, and in the air. Different military operations are carried out on many of the more than 100 military installations throughout Hawai’i and in waters surrounding Hawai’i.

It has been confirmed that RIMPAC air and ground live-fire will be taking place at the 133,000-acre military Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) located in the center of Hawai’i Island. Pohakuloa is contaminated with military Depleted Uranium (DU) radiation and a wide range of military toxins. Continued bombing risks spreading the contamination downwind, endangering the lives of troops, residents and visitors alike . DU is particularly dangerous when small particles are inhaled and can cause cancer, birth defects and genetic damage.

Pohakuloa is translated to mean “The Land of the Night of Long Prayer.” To bomb Pohakuloa is considered desecration and sacrilegious to Hawai’i’s Native People – the Kanaka Maoli, and a continuation of the illegal U.S. occupation of the independent nation of Hawai’i. In short, we want it stopped.
