The 133,000-acre Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) is the largest US live-fire training area outside the continental U.S. The area has been bombed for more than 75 years with millions of live rounds fired annually by all branches of the US military and other countries too. PTA is contaminated with a wide range of military toxins, including Depleted Uranium (DU), which pose serious health hazards. When DU metal is burned (hit with high explosives) it turns into small Depleted Uranium oxide dust particles that can travel great distances and are easily inhaled. These radiation particles once inside the body can cause various cancers and genetic damage to future generations.
