The United Nations Association – USA – Hawai`i Island Chapter and Malu ‘Aina announce a demonstration Sunday, September 21, 9-11 a.m. at the Wailoa Bridge near Suisan in Hilo. In September, world leaders will be in New York City for a UN summit on the climate crisis. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to dramatically reduce global warming pollution.To show these world leaders, including President Barack Obama, that people want action now, 350.org has organized the People’s Climate March in New York City on Sunday, September 21. Over 1,000 businesses, unions, faith groups, schools, social justice groups, environmental groups and others will take part. Cities around the world are organizing marches and demonstrations in support of the People’s Climate March in NYC. All Hawai`i Island residents and visitors are welcome to come to Wailoa Bridge with their signs expressing the need for action now to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions that result in global warming.
