fronting Kukio 15 miles north of Kailua Kona, just south of the Four Seasons/Hualalai Resort.

Kukio is a vacation subdivision of the 1%

The 1% park their multi-million dollar private/corporate jets for cheap at the Keahole Airport. Over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday, dozens of private and corporate jets are parked at Keahole and other airports throughout Hawaii.

The 1% also own multi-million dollar residences in the Kukio/Kaupulehu development and other exclusive sites along the Kona/South Kohala “Gold Coast”. An example: A building contractor reported that the actual cost of a vacation house in Kukio was $169 million, but to pay lower taxes, the owner listed the house with the county tax office as costing “only” $20-25 million.  That’s tax fraud and shorting the county on taxes over $140 million valuation on a single residential property.

It’s time to say to the 1% — PAY YOUR SHARE!   At a time when 26% of children on this island are food insecure, and there is a growing homeless population, this kind of extravagant wealth of the jet setters is SHAMEFUL!

In the U.S. it is reported that 1.6 million children were homeless last year, 42% under the age of six.  Meanwhile, income inequality in the U.S. is now greater than in the Ancient Roman Empire’s economy based on slavery, and growing as the rich in the U.S. vastly increase their incomes.

Local, national, and international policies must change.  An increasing number of people view government working for the corporations and the top wealthy 1% rather than serving ordinary people, the 99%.  This corruption must end. It will be a “Happy New Year” when we put an end to U.S. imperial wars, when justice rolls down like water, and righteous like a mighty stream, when the super-rich 1% pay their fair share, children have enough to eat, everyone has a roof over their heads, and we all respect the earth. Let us commit our lives to this common purpose for the common good. All life on this planet depends on it.
