Ivan Boesky — Wall St. Insider Trader’s passing
I saw the news of Wall St. Insider Trader Ivan Boesky’s passing. I think we spent about 10 or 11 months together at Lompoc Federal Prison, California, in 1988-89. We both had 3 year sentences. I think I may have told you the story about one day he asked me
“What are you in for?” When I told him “a swim for peace in protest of a visiting nuclear warship in Hilo Bay, Hawaii,” he looked at me like a deer in the headlights. He had a stunned look on his face and I could see his mind thinking “There’s No money in that.” Boesky had a Russian Jewish family background, and I recall an older Jewish inmate once saying. “Boesky is NO Jew. He wrote the US government a check for a $100 million fine. If he was a Jew, his right arm would have fallen off.”
