Board of Ethics Hearing
Friday, February 28th 2020 ~10am
Puna Conference Room
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii

The Hawaii County Board of Ethics has elected to draft a resolution to conduct an investigation into the lack of enforcement of state and county laws regarding the removal of protectors from the Mauna Kea access road. At the meeting on Friday they will continue to discuss their proposed resolution.

The ethics commission needs to hear from all of us and they need to be set straight on the State and County’s unethical and immoral actions. Don’t let Governor Ige and his administration use our County Ethics Commission’s resolution as part of a coordinated effort to remove protectors from the Mauna.

The WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, an Australian citizen, faces extradition to the US from the UK and 175 years behind bars for exposing U.S. War Crimes.

The Human Rights Organization, Amnesty International, criticized what it called a “full-scale assault on the right to freedom of expression” by the United States and demanded the country drop its Espionage Charges against and extradition request of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Assange has been in the high security Belmarsh prison in London since April 2019 after being forcibly removed from the Ecuadoran embassy where he’d been effectively trapped since 2012.  The WikiLeaks founder faces up to 175 years in prison for 18 counts of violating the Espionage Act—charges journalists and press freedom defenders said represent a dangerous assault on press freedom by attacking Assange for publishing and exposing U.S. war crimes. The public has a right to know what their government is up to.

Doctors and a United Nations expert have warned that Assange is being held under conditions that threaten his very life. Julian Assange, and whistleblowers Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden are heroes, not criminals. The UK is conducting a hearing this week to determine whether to grant Trump’s request to extradite Julian Assange to the US for trial.

Aloha Commander Borce,

We first met you in front of the PTA main gate when we demonstrated against RIMPAC on June 30, 2018. You introduced us to your wife and agreed to a meeting at a later date.
The three of us had a meeting with you on September 22, 2018 between 11 a.m. to noon on the PTA base. At the meeting you emphasized the local roots of both yourself and your wife. You said that you were born on Oahu in Kalihi. Because you are local you wanted our relationship to be transparent and ohana-style. At that meeting we requested four things that we felt were doable:
  1. You as commander would provide our organization a tour of PTA similar to that provided the Chamber of Commerce..
  2. As discussed with your predecessor, Commander Marquez, you would produce a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for annual Makahiki opening and closing ceremonies and visits to cultural and religious sites on PTA.
  3. As a show of good faith you as Commander would NOT have school children visit PTA for Earth day events until there is comprehensive independent testing and monitoring for DU oxide. And
  4. You as Commander would have community meetings with the public to share what you are able to do and not do.
In the year and a half since that meeting not one of these four doable points have been accomplished.
We ask for a heart-to-heart talk ohana-style to be held with the public on Coconut Island in Hilo (previously a Pu`uhonua) on Saturday, April 25, 2020. (Saturday closest to the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day) [It will have been 22 months since you first met us and emphasized doing things ohana-style!]

Mahalo.
