Question PTA Officials

Tuesday, May 28th, 2019

Aloha kakou,

It’s been suggested that people write PTA officials and request written response to the questions asked at the May 14th and 16th Kona and Hilo Public Meetings on Pohakuloa.  Questions dealing with cultural and religious sites, ongoing bombing, and Depleted Uranium (DU) oxide dust particles blowing in the wind, etc.  Ask additional questions since the opportunity at the meetings was limited.  Below are emails for PTA officials.  Please ask for a response to questions within 30 days.

Solidarity,

Jim Albertini

Truth is Treason in an Empire of Lies, May 31, 2019 Hilo Peace Vigil leaflet

Julian Assange of Wikileaks has been charged with violation of U.S. Espionage laws for exposing U.S. war crimes. He faces possibly 175 years in prison or the death sentence. Those who committed the crimes go free while Assange is in prison. Charges against Assange represents a major escalation in the U.S. government’s criminalization of journalism. For the the first time, a publisher has been charged under the Espionage Act for revealing classified information. Every news organization, every blog, including Malu ‘Aina,  is now at risk.

Chelsea Manning who leaked classified information of U.S. war crimes to Wikileaks spent 7 years in prison before having her sentenced commuted by President Obama. Chelsea is back in jail again for now refusing to testify before a federal grand jury against Julian Assange and Wikileaks. In addition to being held in confinement for the duration of the grand jury investigation or until she purges her contempt and testifies, the judge ordered that she be fined $500 every day she is in custody after 30 days and $1,000 every day she is in custody after 60 days. http://www.nukeresister.org/inside-out/

On May 16, 2019 a reporter for the West Hawaii Today newspaper was banned from a public meeting in Hilo, Hawaii about the 133,000-acre military Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) located in the center of Hawaii Island. The meeting concerned cultural and religious sites, the effects of ongoing bombing, and the contamination of Depleted Uranium (DU) radiation blowing in the wind at PTA.

Every citizen has a right to know the truth about what is taking place in their names. When reporting the truth is blocked or even criminalized, freedom and democracy are in peril.

Upcoming U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Webinar

Monday, May 27th, 2019

Below are a couple uestions I will be submitting to the NRC for answers.  Please send in your own uestions to the email address listed below.  Mahalo.

1. Do not assume that DU from Davey Crockett spotting rounds is the ONLY DU used at the various sites. There could be lots more DU from other various DU rounds in the US arsenal and DU used in ballast.  Will you investigate this?.

2. Should not testing for DU oxide particles be done down wind of the known ranges and suspected impact sites? Comprehensive testing and monitoring –air filters, etc.?

3.  The US spends $32 million dollars per minute on war.  When will comprehensive independent testing and monitoring be done at all DU sites to determine the full extent of DU oxide contamination?

4.  Does not the military continued bombing with high explosives on bases known to be contaminated with Depleted Uranium constitute unethical human experimentation of troops who train at such bases and the civilian populations that surround such bases?

5.  Why isn’t the Army being reuired to follow their own regulations on handling Depleted Uranium including AR 700-48 Section 2-4 to prevent the spread of radiation contamination and and regulations DA PAM 700-48 and AR 40-5?

Hello,

You are receiving this email because in the past you have expressed interest in NRC’s efforts on regulating depleted uranium on firing ranges.

On Friday, May 31, at 2 p.m. EDT, NRC will hold a webinar to present our plan to confirm that depleted uranium is under appropriate regulatory oversight at firing ranges.  NRC will not be focusing on specific sites during this discussion, but we will be discussing NRC’s planned efforts to confirm that DU is under appropriate regulatory oversight.  You can register to join the webinar at this link: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2860934052085185283

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank You.

West Hawaii Today news article and video of Hilo Pohakuloa meeting

Sunday, May 26th, 2019

The US spends $32 million per minute on war, but in 75 years of bombing Pohakuloa less than 1/3 of the 133,000-acres of PTA have been surveyed for cultural and religious sites. No comprehensive independent testing and monitoring has been done to determine the full extent of Depleted Uranium (DU) radiation contamination. Tells you something about priorities. One of the most powerful moments of the meeting were the questions (after the tape ran out) raised by the HAAS students (Hawaiian Academy on Arts & Science) from Pahoa including questions about what PTA officials considered SACRED for which the officials were short on words.
