Concepcion Picciotto, known to many as Conchita or Connie, protested outside the White House for more than 30 years making the peace vigil the longest-running act of political protest in the U.S. Picciotto died on Jan.25, 2016. (Zoeann Murphy/The Washington Post) She was believed to be 80.
In a 2013 profile in The Washington Post, Ms. Picciotto said she spent more than 30 years of her life outside the White House “to stop the world from being destroyed.” “Through her presence, she said she hoped to remind others to take whatever action they could, however small, to help end wars and stop violence, particularly against children.”

Despite President Obama’s declaration less than three months after taking office that he would “seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,” today his administration plans to spend $1T, over the next three decades, to modernize every single element of America’s nuclear triad.
Thank you for your service Conchita.
You are now gone. But your warning endures.
