Take Back the Power from the Generals!

These Are Extremely Dangerous Times!

U.S. president, Donald J. Trump, has said he has turned over warmaking decisions to the Pentagon. In effect, the Commander in Chief has gone AWOL, just like the Congress who has the Constitutional authority to declare war but has long abdicated it’s responsibility. Congress has simply gone along in support of executive action, one war after another into the dark night of the Generals – perpetual war. As someone said: “When your main tool is a hammer you begin to view every problem as a nail to be hammered down.” (Be sure to see the classic movie from the 1960s: Dr. Strangelove.)

So now we have General James “Mad Dog” Mattis, Secretary of War, as the top decision maker on who should be bombed today and when WWIII will be initiated. Some Mad Dogisms: “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet;” “It’s quite fun to shoot them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people.”

Is this the way Americans want their country run? Whatever happened to a government “of, by, and for the people?” “Consent of the governed?” More than 50 years ago, former five star retired Army General and then U.S. President, Dwight David Eisenhower, warned of the growing dangers of the “military-industrial complex,” the formidable union of war contractors and the branches of the U.S. armed forces. Eisenhower saw this unwarranted influence as a threat to democratic government. The influence and dangers of this military-industrial complex have grown immeasurably today and now includes a wide range of intelligence agencies collecting data on virtually everyone. It’s time to take back the decision making power from the Generals and say…

End War & Military Madness Now!

  1. Mourn all victims of violence. 2. Reject war as a solution. 3. Defend civil liberties.
    4. Oppose all discrimination, anti-Islamic, anti-Semitic, anti-Hawaiian, etc.
    5. Seek peace through peaceful means and work for justice in Hawai`i and around the world.
