Truth is Treason in an Empire of Lies, May 31, 2019 Hilo Peace Vigil leaflet

Julian Assange of Wikileaks has been charged with violation of U.S. Espionage laws for exposing U.S. war crimes. He faces possibly 175 years in prison or the death sentence. Those who committed the crimes go free while Assange is in prison. Charges against Assange represents a major escalation in the U.S. government’s criminalization of journalism. For the the first time, a publisher has been charged under the Espionage Act for revealing classified information. Every news organization, every blog, including Malu ‘Aina,  is now at risk.

Chelsea Manning who leaked classified information of U.S. war crimes to Wikileaks spent 7 years in prison before having her sentenced commuted by President Obama. Chelsea is back in jail again for now refusing to testify before a federal grand jury against Julian Assange and Wikileaks. In addition to being held in confinement for the duration of the grand jury investigation or until she purges her contempt and testifies, the judge ordered that she be fined $500 every day she is in custody after 30 days and $1,000 every day she is in custody after 60 days. http://www.nukeresister.org/inside-out/

On May 16, 2019 a reporter for the West Hawaii Today newspaper was banned from a public meeting in Hilo, Hawaii about the 133,000-acre military Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) located in the center of Hawaii Island. The meeting concerned cultural and religious sites, the effects of ongoing bombing, and the contamination of Depleted Uranium (DU) radiation blowing in the wind at PTA.

Every citizen has a right to know the truth about what is taking place in their names. When reporting the truth is blocked or even criminalized, freedom and democracy are in peril.
