The US Descent to Fascism?

How Low Can the U.S. Go?

I just finished watching the Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, moderated by Fox news anchor, Chris Wallace. What a disgrace! What a civil mess! Shameful! My first reaction was, in this age of technology, why didn’t moderator Wallace have a mic mute switch, to stop all the interruptions, when verbal requests failed? Given Trump’s style, it was a no brainer. Or was the chaos part of the planned event? It made it next to impossible to hear what was being said. It seemed more than half the time all three people were talking at once, with moderator Wallace mostly trying to get Trump to stop talking over Biden, though Biden had his moments too.

The debate was a classic display of the dangerous descent of the American empire. But we all need to remember that the descent and evil of empire crosses party lines and didn’t simply start 4 years ago. The American empire has been built on racism, slavery, imperialism and genocide. Just since 9/11 tens of millions (mostly people of color) have been killed, injured, and/or displaced from their homes by the US war machine. Predecessors of Trump were both Democrats & Republicans. The chickens have been coming home to roost in the militarization of police and the increased killings in our streets fueling division. We all need to recognize racist evil when we see it and act to stop it. Black Lives Matter! Since Trump became president millions of Americans, mostly African Americans, have been purged from the voting roles, especially in Republican controlled southern states.

Or do people see the evil of racism and fascism and embrace it?

Trump’s vision of white supremacy, ultra nationalism, and authoritarianism was on full display in the debate. When Wallace tried to get Trump to condemn the right wing white supremacist group “Proud Boys.” Trump instead said:Proud Boys, stand back and stand by.”
