Fatal Officer involved shootings in Hawaii County

I got a response in writing to my June 19, 2021 letter to Hawaii County Police Chief Paul Ferreira requesting a list of all fatal officer involved shootings in Hawaii County since 2010.

Between 2010 and 2015 there were ZERO Fatal Officer involved shootings in Hawaii County.

Between 2016 and 2021 (as of June 28, 2021), there were 12 Fatal Officer involved shootings in Hawaii County.

5 in 2016, 1 in 2017, 4 in 2018, 0 in 2019, 0 in 2020, and 2 in 2021 as of June 28, 2021.

Hawaii County is going in the wrong direction.  We need efforts to de-escalate potentially deadly situations.
