Hilo Peace Vigil leaflet (Dec. 25, 2015 – 744th week) – Friday 3:30-5PM downtown Post Office
After the Thursday, Christmas eve vigil some of us are going to Magic Pan restaurant for dinner, just down the street and around the corner from the Hilo downtown Post office. Join us if you can. It probably would be good to let me know so we can give the restaurant a rough count of numbers. 966-7622. Mahalo. Jim. Please help pass the word on the vigil. We will also be doing our usual Friday vigil 3:30-5PM Christmas day.

Global, AND LOCAL suffering is increasing with on-going wars, refugees, poverty, homelessness, and destruction of our environment. May the glow of our candles and our SILENT presence serve as testimony that a better way is possible. Let us strengthen our resolve to end suffering and dedicate our lives to caring for each other and working for justice, peace, and aloha ‘aina (love for the land), here in Hawaii and around the world.

Americans like to think of themselves as a peace-loving nation, but the figures speak otherwise. The truth is the U.S. is addicted to war. The U.S. is a garrison state, the world’s leading arms merchant and gun runner, instigator of violent conflict. The U.S. is not who it pretends to be – a peace-loving beacon of freedom and democracy. It is a global empire that believes it has the right to conduct regime changes wherever it wants around the world (Hawaii included) and to take other nations resources at will. This is why many people around the world hate the U.S. A 2014 Gallup poll taken among 66,000 people in 65 nations revealed the USA is considered to be the greatest threat to peace. (HUFFINGTON POST – 2014) Americans, please look in the mirror. The U.S. created ISIS. The U.S. has killed more than 20 million people in 37 nations since WWII.
