No More Violence

An Urgent Call:

Turn Away from Violence at Home & Abroad!

The choice today is no longer between violence and nonviolence. It is either nonviolence or nonexistence.” Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In recent days we have learned about the terrorist hate crime murders of 11 people at a Pittsburgh Jewish Synagogue; the mailing of fourteen package bombs to critics of President Trump; the killing of two African Americans in a Kentucky Kroger store after the shooter tried to enter a locked Black church; the grisly murder of a Washington Post journalist inside a Saudi Arabian consulate; the sending of US troops to confront fleeing Central American refugees at the Mexican Boarder, and the U.S. withdrawal from another international agreement – this one an arms control treaty with Russia.

What we haven’t heard as much about lately are the ongoing US wars (is it currently six or seven?) in the Middle East that have resulted in millions killed, wounded or made refugees, covert US “Special Ops” taking place all over the world, and the past US wars and regime changes in Latin America that have created chaos, violence, poverty and a vast number of fleeing refugees and asylum seekers.

What’s next? Who knows, but one thing is clear: More guns and bombs, hate and violence are NOT the answer. Unless we change our ways and turn away from hate and violence at home and abroad, humanity is headed down a path of violent self destruction. What we are doing to one another we are also doing to the earth. The violence that goes around comes around. That’s why climate disaster and nuclear war are the two greatest threats to civilization as we know it. Live aloha! Aloha ‘Aina! Malama Honua (Take Care of the Earth.)

All the moral giants of history were committed to truth and love and they were people with a vision of hope. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.” Truth will overcome Lies. Love will overcome hate. Let us keep this vision of healing for peace and never give up.

The Choice is Ours: Nonviolence or Nonexistence

U.S. Military — “Gangster for Capitalism”

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018

War is a Racket”

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.” Major General Smedley D. Butler, two time U.S. medal of honor winner, America’s most decorated soldier.

The USA Imperial military has been marching overseas continuously since the 1893 overthrow of Hawaii. In Hawaii it was for corporate sugar interests and military bases for projecting U.S. power and domination. Today, including US ongoing wars and many global covert “Special Ops” it’s still about corporate interests including oil, power, domination, and the arms merchants of death – Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumann, General Dynamics, etc. It’s not about “Freedom & Democracy,” but does anyone care?

Today’s migrants (really refugees) from Central America and other places around the world are often fleeing countries where the U.S. created or supported military coups for corporate interests that led to extreme poverty, violence, repression and chaos. See a list of countries.

Do you think the U.S. might just have something to do with people fleeing their countries?

The Road to Fascism

US on the Road to Fascism

Fascism – a simple definition: a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often sexism and racism.

Some Key Early Warning Signs of Fascism include: Supremacy of the Military, Extreme Nationalism, Obsession with National Security, Corporate Power Protected and Labor Suppressed, Rampant Cronyism & Corruption, Controlled Mass Media.

Many people in the U.S. see the U.S. as spreading “freedom & democracy” around the world. The American narrative is that the U.S. is “the good guy” and the major problems in the world are caused by others out there – the Russians, Chinese, Iranians, etc. This is contrary to how much of the world views the U.S. To many around the world the U.S. is viewed as a global empire waging wars of aggression and overthrowing governments on behalf of corporate interests. While the U.S. accuses others of meddling in U.S. elections, its own citizens seem to completely ignore the long list of governments the U.S. has overthrown, overtly and covertly. See –https://williamblum.org/essays/read/overthrowing-other-peoples-governments-the-master-list

Case in point. Consider the U.S. narrative for Hawaii. How many Americans, including residents in Hawaii, view the U.S. as an illegal occupying power of an independent nation state –The Hawaiian Kingdom? Isn’t it time we correct our vision. Learn the truth and begin to see the world from the eyes of others.
