Glamorizing Violence

The Military Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA), located in the center of Hawaii Island recently hosted both a “Champions of Pohakuloa” breakfast and live-fire tour (photo below) and “Experience Pohakuloa Day” for around 600 — school children, parents, and community members, with live music, educational displays and tours. See Pohakuloa Training Area Facebook for photos.
Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) is a 133,000-acre live-fire military base contaminated with Depleted Uranium (DU) radiation, lead, and a wide range of military toxins. More than 14 million live rounds are fired annually at PTA by all branches of the US military. The base has been bombed for more than 75 years. Continuing to use high explosives in areas known to be contaminated with Depleted Uranium radiation spreads the contamination. It gets airborne and blows in the wind.
The inhalation of Depleted Uranium (DU) oxide dust particles are “the most deadly form of radiation.” This is according to Hawaii resident, Dr. Lorrin Pang, MD, listed in the Who’s Who Best Doctors, and retired from 24 years in the Army Medical Corps. (See 3 min Youtube video Pohakuloa DU Oxides and Birth Defects )
Hawaii today, with more than 100 US military installations, is the Indo-Pacific Command Center and training ground for nuclear war. B-2 strategic nuclear bombers, at a cost of more than $2 billion each, (image below) have been deployed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. B-2 bombers have also flown non stop from Louisiana, Missouri and Guam to practice bomb Pohakuloa. A B-2 bomber has been named “Spirit of Hawaii.” How disgraceful is that? Aloha is the Spirit of Hawaii not a nuclear bomber!
Since 2001 the U.S. has spent $32 million dollars every hour of every day on war. Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter recently said the U.S. is “the most warlike nation in the history of the world.” A nuclear war today could kill billions. The chances of nuclear war are now “higher than they’ve been in generations” according to United Nations Security Council disarmament chief Izumi Nakamitsu http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/51461.htm
Wage Peace! Stop Bombing Hawaii & Training for Nuclear War!
- Mourn all victims of violence. 2. Reject war as a solution. 3. Defend civil liberties.
4. Oppose all discrimination, anti-Islamic, anti-Semitic, anti-Hawaiian, etc.
5. Seek peace through peaceful means and work for justice in Hawai`i and around the world.
