Mahalo to Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. for his guiding light of nonviolence

Martin Luther King Jr.’s Riverside Church speech was titled “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.” It was delivered exactly one year before his April 4, 1968 assassination in Memphis. In the speech, King declared, “A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

Trump’s Failed Coup!

The disgraceful violent coup attempt at the US Capitol in Washington D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021 by right wing extremist supporters of President Donald Trump is a crime against democracy. It is also clear that Donald J. Trump was the inciter-in-chief of that crime. The failed coup attempt was also a blatant expression of the “chickens coming home to roost.” The US has a long history of waging wars and orchestrating coups worldwide. Here in Hawaii we are approaching the 128th anniversary of the US military assisting in the illegal overthrow of the internationally recognized independent nation of Hawaii on Jan. 17, 1893. It’s now 2021 and Hawaii is still waiting for the illegal US occupation to end.

Make no mistake. Trump should be removed. But let the message below sink in.

According to author David Swanson “Since World War II, during a supposed golden age of peace, the United States military has killed or helped kill some 20 million people, overthrown at least 36 governments, interfered in at least 85 foreign elections, attempted to assassinate over 50 foreign leaders, and dropped bombs on people in over 30 countries. The United States is responsible for the deaths of 5 million people in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, and over 1 million just since 2003 in Iraq.”

In 2021 be vigilant for the possible attempt to enact Patriot Act #2 following the Trump insurrection and coup attempt. Such an act will likely include increased government surveillance, censorship, restrictions on free speech rights, the right of assembly, etc.

Are Trump’s Most Reckless Actions Yet To Come?

Just what we need in the midst of a global pandemic!

Iranian officials are aware of intelligence suggesting the Trump administration is engaged in a “plot to fabricate a pretext for war.” Israeli and US nuclear submarines and other warships including the USS Nimitz carrier strike force are in position. The US has recently deployed 2,000 additional troops and an extra fighter jet squadron to Saudi Arabia. US B-52 bombers have been sent on missions to the Persian gulf three times in recent weeks.
