Defuse Nuclear War!

Negotiate, don’t Escalate!

The U.S. and NATO are pumping Tens of Billions of Dollars of advanced weapons into Ukraine. This may be giving a false image of successful war efforts by Ukraine against Russia. The reality may very well be that Russia is being pushed closer to using nuclear weapons by the US and NATO fueling this war.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently said: “Today, humanity is just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation. We have been extraordinarily lucky so far. But luck is not a strategy.” See Nuclear risks extreme says UN Secretary-General to NPT Review Conference

The US Code Pink Women’s Peace Organization recently wrote President Biden and met with members of Congress saying: “We want diplomacy, not more war in Ukraine, nor weapons to escalate the war… Please take concrete steps to initiate serious diplomatic negotiations with Russian President Putin to end the war in Ukraine and avert global disaster. It is not sufficient to say Putin does not want to negotiate; What are you offering? Are you offering to remove any ABM missiles from Poland or Romania? Are you offering to return to the INF treaty? Are you offering 100% support for the MINSK II Accord, rather than sending in weapons, as we have since 2014, to undermine that accord?…

Please remember, President Biden, JFK resolved the Cuban Missile Crisis by removing US missiles from Turkey, not by threatening regime change.  Avert WWIII, global famine, and nuclear catastrophe. Negotiate, do not escalate, and instruct your SOS to pursue diplomacy. We need a ceasefire now and investments in climate, green jobs, healthcare, and housing, not weapons to fuel an endless proxy war. Please take action to pursue a diplomatic settlement.”

Veterans for Peace former president, Gerry Condon, had this to say: As veterans who have experienced the carnage of war, we are concerned not just about civilian deaths in Ukraine, but about the young soldiers on both sides who are being killed and injured in the tens of thousands.  We know all too well that the survivors will be traumatized and scarred for life.  These are additional reasons why the Ukraine war must end now.

We know that our own government had a large role in creating this war crisis and is now keeping this war going. We ask you to listen to veterans who say Enough is Enough — War is Not the Answer.  We want urgent, good faith diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine, not more US weapons, advisors, and endless war, and certainly not a nuclear war.”

Peace for Ukraine, Russia, and the world!

Peace is a Victory for Everyone!

1. Mourn all victims of violence. 2. Reject violence & war as solutions. 3. Defend civil liberties.
4. Oppose all discrimination: anti-Islamic, anti-Semitic, anti-Hawaiian, anti-Black, anti-Asian, anti-Russian, etc.
5. Seek peace through peaceful means and work for justice in Hawai`i and around the world.

What kind of “Peace” does Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth believe in?

Monday, September 19th, 2022

Napua Burke and Jim Albertini at Hilo Peace Pole on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 during the County sponsored “Peace Walk.”

Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth refused an invitation to join in a photo at the Mo’oheau Bandstand Peace Pole with our banner “Stop Bombing Pohakuloa.”

He recently expressed his support on Hawaii News Now 9/16 for renewing the lease of 23,000 acres of Hawaiian crown and government lands to the military at Pohakuloa, saying the military takes care of the environment.  See https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/video/2022/09/16/mahalo-tour-hawaii-county-mayor-mitch-roth/ <https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/video/2022/09/16/mahalo-tour-hawaii-county-mayor-mitch-roth/>

The current lease totaling $1 for 65 years will be expiring in 2029.

What kind of Peace does Mitch believe in?   So-called “Peace” that continues Bombing and training for nuclear war at Pohakuloa is NO Peace in my view.

Sunday, Sept. 18th Hilo Peace Walk

Sunday, September 18th, 2022

Aloha PeacePals et al,

This morning, Jim Albertini,  Steve Paulmier, Napua Burke and yours truly joined in a Int’l Peace Day walk in Hilo (over 80 folks walked in the rain!)
We’ll also do a demo in front of the Pohakuloa Army base on Sept. 21. Please join us and/or encourage your friends and allies to join in.   (see link below for details)

Actually, this was a rare case of the Peace contingent(of 4 activists!) co-opting Hilo Mayor Roth & Rotary Club’s  wishy-washy Peace pole ceremony & march.  Because Jim A and 3 of us carried big banners(“STOP Bombing Pohakuloa,” ” US Military biggest polluter!” & “Protect Pohakuloa and MaunaKea”)–1 in front, 1 in the middle and 1 at the back of the March, it certainly appeared to passing motorists and onlookers that the whole line of marchers were marching behind those Peace banners! What an opportunistic tactical victory for the– almost invisible–Peace movement! Spread this episode of radical genius far and wide! ☮👍🤔
Peace and Imua,
Danny

See https://malu-aina.org/?p=8348  for details on the Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022 Stop Bombing Pohakuloa gathering, and please pass the word.  Mahalo
