The Path to Peace in

Ukraine!

We need negotiations, a ceasefire, not escalation that could lead to WWIII.

Weapons are NOT the path to Peace.

US funding for the war in Ukraine:

March $13.6 Billion – May $40 Billion –

November (proposed) $37.7 Billion

That’s $91.3 Billion total.

Reasons Congress should NOT give additional tens of billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine.

  • The endless flow of weapons prevents negotiations that must eventually come unless nuclear war comes first.
  • Most of the world wants a ceasefire and negotiated peace.
  • Ukrainians who haven’t fled and live nearest the war want negotiated peace in much higher numbers than do those in more distant parts of Ukraine.
  • Fractions of the amounts they’re dumping into this could transform the lives of billions of people, end starvation, end the lack of clean drinking water, and create a Green New Deal beyond our wildest imaginings.
  • The U.S. public has not been asked and easily could be, especially as this is all being done in the name of democracy.
  • The war-profiteering weapons dealers fund election campaigns, scatter jobs across districts as bribes, and have stock owned by Congress Members, some of whom openly brag about profiting from their support for war.
  • The government of Ukraine is apparently seeking a wider war with an increased risk of nuclear war, and would not mind deceiving the U.S. government in the process.
  • Some U.S. allies where the propaganda has been less intense in this case, such as Italy, have seen big peace rallies with leading elected officials demanding an end to the weapons shipments, and dock workers blocking those shipments.
  • If we don’t create peace and the possibility of global cooperation, environmental destruction will run its course whether or not nuclear war is part of it.

Aloha & Mahalo Margaret Furukawa

Long-time Hilo Peace Vigil participant, Margaret Furukawa, (in the Nov. 2021 photo with her dog Mickey above) passed away on Nov. 12, 2022, at home. She was 89. Margaret’s spirit will live on in many ways, including her vigil sign we will faithfully display — “PEACE IS A VICTORY FOR ALL SIDES.”
Rest in peace Margaret. Mahalo for your service for peace.

If possible, please join us at 4:45PM Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at the Friday Hilo Peace vigil outside the downtown Hilo Post Office/Federal Building. We will come together and share memories of Margaret.  We will gather under the tree where Margaret always sat at the Peace Vigil. We will have her sign — “Peace is a victory for all.” Please help pass the word to others who knew Margaret and invite them to come.  Mahalo.
