Big Island Peace organizing meeting Monday, Dec. 9th

from 6-8 PM at the Kea’au Community Center

Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.  Please mark your calendars.  The next meeting is Monday Dec. 23rd.

Come celebrate on Dec. 9th Hawaii County’s repeal of the military exemption from the County’s historic Nuclear-Free Zone.  Together, let’s plan steps forward.  Ex. Clean up of the toxic mess — Depleted Uranium radiation and other toxins from 80 years of bombing in the center of our island at Pohakuloa.  Enough!  Time to Stop the Bombing, Clean Up the Mess, and return the land to the Hawaiian people.

I’m bringing my guitar and will be playing “The Ballad of Perl Harbor” a song I wrote 41 years ago.  (See lyrics below and a link to a recording done in 1985 with Bernard Punikaia of Kalaupapa and Hale Mohalu.  Bernard has a beautiful voice.  He was a close friend and named our farm and organization — Malu ‘Aina  – Land of Peace. Bernard passed away in 2009 and is buried at Kalaupapa, Molokai.)

The Ballad of Pearl Harbor

Below are the lyrics to the song.  Jim Albertini, and Bernard Punikaia of Hale Mohalu, recorded the song together in 1985. You can also listen to an MP3 recording of the song.

by Jim Albertini, composed 12/21/1983

Do not give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before swine. They will trample them under foot at best, and perhaps even tear you to shreds.” (Matthew 7:6)

Chorus: Take back the Pearl for the people. Let Mother Pearl shine again, and give life back to the land, and welcome all of her rainbow children that bridge the ocean of peace.

1. We showered you with our pearls, but you wanted even more. You took away our Mother Pearl –raped, plundered, and trampled her.

2. We were blinded by your breath of fire. You made us very proud. We worshiped you not knowing, we were losing our souls.

 Chorus:

 3. You poisoned the waters and destroyed the fish ponds. You killed the fish and the oysters and desecrated holy lands. You put up fences and iron gates. You brought in disease and waves of death.

 Chorus:

 4. We have been fools. But our eyes are now opening. No longer will we worship you or follow in your ways. Depart from us with your poison quills and deadly unhatched eggs.

 Chorus:
