Live-Fire update for Pohakuloa
Aloha Kakou,
I talked by phone today (Tuesday, March 28, 2017) to both the West Hawaii Governor’s liaison, Susan Kim, and also Lt. Col. Charles Anthony, State of Hawaii Dept. of Defense Public Affairs officer.
Ms. Kim confirmed there will be field artillery 155mm live- high explosive rounds fired on Wednesday, March 29th at Pohakuloa. She also said there would be parachute jumps on March 28 and 29 into the Keamuku area of Pohakuloa. Lt.Col. Anthony said there would be no live-fire involving the Hawaii Air National Guard fighter jets and jets from 5 other states — California, Arizona, Montana, Missouri, and Utah, that are currently doing aircraft training in and around Hawaii as part of “Sentry Aloha Exercises” taking place this week and next. Col Anthony said: “There are no scenarios within this iteration of Sentry Aloha that call for any type of ordnance (live or inert) to be dropped at Pohakuloa Training Area.”
So it appears there will be live-fire at Pohakuloa on Wed but from artillery, not fighter jets. High explosive Live-fire desecrates the aina, burns DU metal creating DU oxide particles, and spreads DU oxide particles in the winds.
Solidarity for protecting Pohakuloa and Stopping live-fire. See you at the protest –Pohakuloa main gate Wednesday, March 29th 10AM-2PM.
