Peace organizing meeting Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at the Kea’au Community Center from 6-8 PM and online too.  The online Zoom part starts at 6:30 PM.

Please pass the word to others to join the meeting and the weekly Hilo Peace Vigils Friday 3:30-5 PM at the downtown Post Office/Federal Bldg. organizing meetings held the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at the Keaau Community Center usually 6-8 PM

Among items on the agenda:

1.  Reflections on La Ku’oko’a Day –Nov. 28, 1843 Hawaii Independence Day.  Hawaii recognized internationally into the family of nations.

 2.  Discussion of Ukraine war status and dangers of escalation.  Also China, Korea, Iran, etc.  

3.  Requested meeting with PTA Commander LTC Kevin Cronin and New PTA Sergeant Major Jessica Cho with nuclear, and chemical hazard background. 

4.  Plans for UH Hilo forums on Pohakuloa –history, lease, etc.  formation of a committee to work with Cade Jameson at UH Hilo. 

5. Martha Hennessy will be visiting Hawaii Island Jan. 18 -30th 2022 and available for speaking engagements for Peace.

 Catholic activist Martha Hennessy has traveled to Russia, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Korea, and Palestine and has been imprisoned for protesting nuclear weapons, drone warfare, and the torture of prisoners at Guantanamo. She is the seventh grandchild of Dorothy Day (1897-1980), founder of the Catholic Worker movement, Benedictine Oblate, and candidate for sainthood in the Catholic Church.

7.  Mayor Roth’s Peace Pole in his office lobby, even though he supports the bombing of Pohakuloa, and lease renewal.   He thinks the military is doing a good job.    An email by Jim urging Mayor to join Mayor’s for Peace has been sent to him.  So far no response.
