Anti-Nuclear Pacifists Sent to Federal Prison!

Kings Bay protest

They shall beat their swords in plowshares… and train for war no more.” Isaiah 2:4

On April 4, 2018, the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, seven Catholic plowshares activists entered the Kings Bay Trident submarine base in St. Mary’s, Georgia to symbolically disarm nuclear weapons. King’s Bay is the largest nuclear submarine base in the world. Dr. King devoted his life to addressing what he called the “triple evils of militarism, racism, and materialism.” See more info here about the Kingsbay Plowshares https://kingsbayplowshares7.org/

Among the Kings Bay Plowshares 7 sentenced to Federal prison on Nov. 13, 2020 was 68 year old Martha Hennessy. (Martha is in yellow shirt in above photo) Martha’s sentence is 10 months. Other sentences differ. Some longer, some shorter.  Martha has been a volunteer at Malu Aina farm in Kurtistown, where we grow food to share with people in need and work for justice and peace. Martha is a mother and grandmother and an occupational therapist by profession who has worked at Life Care Center in Hilo in the past. Martha spends most of her volunteer time now at Mary House, a Catholic Worker community in New York City, which provides shelter for the homeless and food for the hungry. The worldwide Catholic Worker movement was founded by Martha’s grandmother, Dorothy Day. A Catholic Worker community in Honolulu, named Wally House based at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, was inspired by Martha.

Martha said her plowshares action was taken to “help prevent another nuclear holocaust,” and call attention to how nuclear weapons kill everyday, by their mere existence and maintenance. She noted that the Bulletin of Atomic Scientist Doomsday clock is now set at 100 seconds to Midnight. She said she sees her grandchildren’s faces in that clock.

On Jan. 22, 2021 the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will enter into force, having been ratified by 50 countries worldwide, now making all nuclear weapons illegal under international law. So who are the real criminals? Time for Healthcare, NOT Warfare and more prisons, especially in this time of a global Covid crisis.

The U.S. locks up peacemakers and gives medals and Billions to warmakers!

1. Mourn all victims of violence. 2. Reject violence & war as solutions. 3. Defend civil liberties.

US War Planes — Stay at Home!

Hawaii will be participating in the national military propaganda Fly Overs that have been taking place for the past several weeks throughout the U.S. and continuing in the weeks ahead.  .  Thursday, May 14, 2020 military Fuel Tankers, Transport aircraft and F-22 Stealth Raptor bombers will fly over all Hawaii islands between 11AM and 2PM.

F-22s cost $412 million each and $68,000 per hour to fly.

These False gods of metal are stealing money that should be going to frontline workers for personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard pay, and for Covid 19 testing that at present is very inadequate.

Stop Glorifying War and Weapons of Mass Destruction.  Fund Healthcare not Warfare.  Feed the hungry and shelter the homeless.  Wage peace not war!  Stop the Military Flyovers!  US war planes GO Home! And Stay Home!

Michael Moore presents Planet of the Humans, a documentary that dares to say what no one else will this Earth Day — that we are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet earth because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road — selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America. This film is the wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face: that in the midst of a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It’s too little, too late. Removed from the debate is the only thing that MIGHT save us: getting a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption. Why is this not THE issue? Because that would be bad for profits, bad for business. Have we environmentalists fallen for illusions, “green” illusions, that are anything but green, because we’re scared that this is the end—and we’ve pinned all our hopes on biomass, wind turbines, and electric cars? No amount of batteries are going to save us, warns director Jeff Gibbs (lifelong environmentalist and co-producer of “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “Bowling for Columbine”). This urgent, must-see movie, a full-frontal assault on our sacred cows, is guaranteed to generate anger, debate, and, hopefully, a willingness to see our survival in a new way—before it’s too late.
