March 23, 2017 Radiation Monitoring across from Pohakuloa Training Area main gate

Ron Fujiyoshi, Danny Li, Donald Wessels, and myself spent more than 3 hours doing radiation monitoring fronting the main gate at the Pohakuloa Training Area on Thursday, March 23rd.  During that time heavy artillery live fire was taking place with huge dust clouds formed by the explosions.  In addition aerial burst of a bright white nature were also taking place, which could have been white phosphorus weapons.

During that time frame, under moderate trade wind conditions, our radiation monitors picked up several radiation spikes in the 60s Counts Per Minute (CPM) rage.  One at 70 CPM.  A reading at Mauna Kea Park hit 88 CPM.  Normal background readings are in the 5-20 CPM range.

Next week fighter jets from the Hawaii air national guard and 5 other states are due to begin bombing at Pohakuloa.  A protest at the Pohakuloa main gate is planned for 10AM-2PM on Wednesday, March 29th.  Car pools from the Hilo side will leave Komohana and Saddle rd. at 9AM.  Bring all weather gear, sun screen, a brown bag lunch, and water.  And please pass the word to others.  It is our responsibility to protest this desecration of Hawaii’s sacred aina. From Democracy to Fascism!

Fascism On Our Doorstep!

Italian Dictator Benito Mussolini said:

Fascism is when the corporations and the State become one.”

The disguise of democracy is quickly disappearing. Trump’s claim to help working people, like so much else of what he has to say, is a fraud. Count the Goldman Sacks officials he’s appointed; the billionaires, his proposed budget priorities – cutting Meals on Wheels, education, the arts, assistance for the poor, pumping up an already overinflated military, deregulating corporations, providing more tax breaks for the rich, trashing the environment, etc. etc. If Donald Trump isn’t a symbol of corporations and the state becoming one, I don’t know what is.

Measure the path from Democracy to Despotism/Fascism yourself. The gap between rich and poor has widened dramatically. Banks “too big to fail” have grown bigger. Power, wealth, and media are concentrated in the hands of a few. The democratic term “consent of the governed” is mere window dressing. We all need to look at our communities and nation and see how we fare on the scales of respect for one another, concentration of power, economic distribution, and access to information. The more controlled the information, the more slanted the economic distribution, the more concentrated the power in decision making, the more disrespect we see to individuals and minorities, the more we as a community and a society are moving from democracy to despotism and fascism.

A new terrorist attack, or military strike/war with North Korea, will rally people against a common enemy and move fascism inside the front door. Don’t fall for it. Don’t open the door to fascism!
