NUCLEAR RISK

In their own words: Trinity at 75

Seventy-five years ago today, the first nuclear bomb exploded near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Eyewitness excerpts offer a new retelling of the Trinity test, woven entirely from words that more than a dozen of the project’s protagonists first published in the Bulletin. Read more.

Increasing Dangers of War!

In the midst of a global pandemic, a growing climate crisis, unprecedented unemployment, and important demands for racial justice, the last thing we need is more war. Yet currently there are several very troubling events which could lead directly to further war.

In the past few weeks Israel has bombed Iran. A military response by Iran could draw the US into another escalating war of massive, unrestrained consequences.

      RIMPAC

In addition to dangers of war with Iran, the US is conducting a massive show of military might in waters abutting China. The US has deployed several nuclear submarines, two aircraft carriers and their escort ships, and B-1 bombers are flying overhead. It’s also reported the US Army is practicing in Guam to seize Chinese claimed islands. The focus of all this display of US military might is a cluster of islands in the south China sea claimed by China where they recently installed military facilities on some of the islands. A miscalculation by accident or design could trigger another “Tonkin Gulf” alleged incident similar to what sparked the US bombing and escalating war in Vietnam.

If this is not enough, now comes RIMPAC 2020 war training exercises in Hawaii by military forces from more than 20 countries scheduled from Aug. 17-31. It will involve dozens of war ships, more than 100 war planes, and thousands of troops.

Trump & MT. Rushmore speech July 3, 2020

Saturday, July 4th, 2020

Trump’s July 3, 2020 speech at Mount Rushmore was a rant about “Far Left Fascism,” by the Fascist in Chief himself.  He also said “The Social Justice movement wants to silence us, but we will not be silenced.”

He started off his speech by saying  “Mount Rushmore will forever stand as a monument and will never be desecrated.”  Trump needs to learn history.  The building of the Mount Rushmore monument of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln on the Black Hills sacred mountain was desecration itself.

Did you know that the Lakota Sioux were forcibly evicted from their land, and the mountain formerly known as Six Grandfathers was named after the first white man to express interest in it. In 1884, New York City lawyer Charles E. Rushmore asked his guide what Six Grandfathers was called. His guide replied, “Never had a name, but from now on we’ll call it Rushmore.”

Six Grandfathers was sacred to the Lakota Sioux. The mountain was named after the ancestral spirits who came to Lakota medicine man Black Elk in a vision, and any construction on that land would have been an insult…

Native American Protesters Blocked the Road Leading Up to Mount Rushmore and Faced Off With the National Guard in the Hours Before Trump’s Fiery Speech
Ashley Collman, Business Insider
Collman writes: “A group of mainly Native American protesters blocked the road leading up to Mount Rushmore for three hours before President Donald Trump gave a speech at the national monument Friday night.”
