Special Hilo Action Tuesday, Nov. 21st from 10 AM -Noon at Hawaii County Building

See info below

TAKE ACTION NOW!

Call for a CEASEFIRE in Gaza and the escalating violence in the Middle East.

Call for canceling the lease and seizure of Hawaiian lands by the US military at Pohakuloa. Stop the Bombing and all live-fire at Pohakuloa! Clean up the military toxic mess, and return the land to the Hawaiian people. Pohakuloa live-fire bombing area located in the dry, windy, center of Hawaii Island is a Lahaina firestorm in the making.

Meet Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023 – 10 AM -Noon

Hawaii County Building in Hilo – 25 Aupuni Street entrance

to urge Mayor Mitch Roth (808) 961‑8211 and Council members (808) 961-8225 to take action on the above concerns, and place Ceasefire, and Cancel Pohakuloa Lease ribbons on the County’s peace poles.

I am writing as your constituent to urgently ask that you call for a ceasefire to end the deadly violence unfolding right now in Gaza and become a cosponsor of H.Res 786, the Ceasefire Now resolution.

Since October 7, over 10,800 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, including over 4,300 children. Countless more are trapped and buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings. The Israeli military’s indiscriminate bombing of the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza has hit schools, hospitals, ambulances, and flattened entire neighborhoods. The scale of the catastrophe is overwhelming.

The Israeli military has also tightened its 16-year military blockade of Gaza, suffocating and starving the Palestinians who live there — over half of whom are children. Hospitals have run out of the power and fuel they need to save lives. The entire health care system has collapsed.

There is no military solution, and we cannot bomb our way to peace. I call on you, as my representative, to urgently demand a ceasefire to prevent the further loss of life, ensure the release of hostages and everyone arbitrarily detained, and to allow the entrance of life-saving humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The U.S. must focus on a political solution, de-escalation, and ceasefire. Not fuel violence by the Israeli military by supporting its attacks and sending more weapons. U.S. complicity in Israel’s occupation, blockade, and apartheid must end.

Army Pohakuloa Training Area Poses a fire hazard!

Saturday, November 18th, 2023

Letter printed in the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and West Hawaii Today on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023

Mahalo for the Trib 11/5/23 article about Fire Hazards on the Big Island. But I haven’t seen any fire assessment in depth look at having a Live-fire Bombing and Shelling Military base in the center of our island which is a very windy and dry area. How about an article on that? How many fires were started by Pohakuloa in the last 25 years? Just one year before the Lahaina fire, a fire started in Pohakuloa burned 20,000 acres, including land outside the base. Instead of calling it the Pohakuloa fire, it was called the Leilani fire. Deception or what? And given all the toxins used at Pohakuloa, including Depleted Uranium, what toxins are blowing in the wind and smoke off Pohakuloa? Do any officials know and care? Hawaii Dr. Lorrin Pang, MD (listed in the Who’s Who top 3% of America’s Best Doctors) and 24 years in the Army Medical Corps, said Pohakuloa should be ringed 360 degrees for a full year with proper air filters to know what’s coming off the base. In 2008 after Depleted Uranium was confirmed used at PTA, the County Council passed Resolution 639-08 by a vote of 8-1. It called for 8 actions, including comprehensive INDEPENDENT testing and monitoring. To date, none of the 8 actions called for in that resolution have been done. Why?
