Where is Justice for Abel and the Kalo?
The photo below is a float from the Saturday, April 6, 2013 Merrie Monarch parade in Hilo. On the float is Uncle Abel Simeona Lui with some youth and plants of kalo –taro, etc. The day before, Abel and others were arrested on Hawaiian Kingdom Crown lands near the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo where they planted a “Kanaka Garden,” including kalo, coconuts, etc. The garden was destroyed by Hawaii county police and DLNR police. Abel and his ohana have been pushed off of his ancestral lands at Kawa in the Ka’u district of Hawaii Island by Big Island Mayor, Billie Kenoi. Abel has been staying and taking care of the garden near the statue.
