Sept. 11, 2015 Hilo Peace Vigil leaflet on Dismantling the U.S. Global Empire
Dismantling the U.S. Global
Empire!
In the late 1990s, a right wing think tank of neoconservative (neocons) including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, William Kristol, Robert Kagan, Paul Wolfowitz, etc. – The Project for a New American Century (PNAC), issued a position paper talking about the U.S. being the “world’s pre-eminent power” after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In short, the U.S. was the Global Empire of the 21st century. The only thing that was needed was a cover and rationale for domination throughout the world. What was needed was a new enemy to replace communism and a new shocking triggering event –“a new Pearl Harbor.” 14 years ago today came 9-11. The years since have been endless war in the name of “freedom and democracy.” Terrorism has replaced communism as the new global enemy. The so called “war on terror” has worked to destabilize, destroy, and cause chaos in much of the world, especially Muslim nations, to the financial benefit of the few in the U.S. and its western allies.

The current flood of refugees to Europe is a direct result of U.S and western bombing and chaos created in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, etc. There is no end in sight to the refugees, bombing or chaos. Al-Qaeda and ISIS are products of the U.S. Empire.
What is needed today is not more bombs and missiles but a dismantling of the U.S. Global Empire. Instead of creating more wars and global chaos we need an international non-violent peoples movement to end the crimes of empire. We need communities to stand together for peace, economic justice, and to protect the people, plants, and animals of this precious earth we jointly call home. Please do your part!
