Report on Hilo Women’s march Jan. 21
Saturday, January 21st, 2017I’m just home from the Hilo Women’s March. Despite Rainy weather the turn out was massive. My estimate would be over 2000, perhaps 3000. The program of music and speakers was excellent and really built for unity. Jackie Pualani Johnson lead off with a beautiful Kahea (Call) that set the positive tone for the rights of women, native people and other people of color, the poor, people with disabilities, Muslims, immigrants, and issues of health care, climate disaster, and peace. There will be important work in the days ahead to support one another as the Trump agenda is brought forward.

The Importance of Speaking Up Now!

This Friday is our 800th consecutive weekly Hilo peace vigil at the downtown Hilo Fed. bldg./Post office. It’s also Trump’s Inauguration Day so I expect a larger crowd than usual. (See below) I’ll be bringing a portable sound system for speakers and some music. Mahalo and solidarity for justice, peace, and aloha ‘aina.

Because I didn’t have a disability.
Then Trump came for Native Americans and Native Hawaiians but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t Native
Then Trump came for the African Americans
